How Two-Factor Authentication Works

When someone attempts to access your account from a new device, they will be asked to input a code that is sent to your account's email address or phone number. If the individual doesn't have access to that code, they cannot enter the account and the code will expire. You will then be notified about the attempt to access your account, so you can take measures to prevent attacks like this from occurring again.

ONLINE SECURITY AT ITS FINEST

Double Up on Defense

Two-factor authentication adds another layer of defense to your account. In order to gain access to your information, a hacker would need access to both your password and a secondary factor. Their odds of obtaining both are much less likely. This second factor can either be an email or an SMS text sent to the associated account. Additionally, you receive a notification whenever your account is accessed from a new device, allowing you to recognize suspicious logins.

Easily Block Automated Attacks

Some estimates state that multi-factor authentication can prevent 99.9% of automated cyber attacks. With the simple addition of another factor for account access, your online security improves dramatically, because even if an automated hack guesses your password, it would need access to your secondary factor. Imagine someone steals your credit card and tries to make an ATM cash withdrawal. They have the physical card (the first factor), but they don't have the PIN (the secondary factor). Therefore, they are unable to access your funds.

ONE LOCK ISNT ALWAYS ENOUGH

Where Passwords Fall Short

Passwords as a security measure aren't perfect. The average person has 70-80 passwords for online services. That's a lot to memorize, especially if each password is unique and comprised of secure characters. Unfortunately, security fatigue is difficult to avoid, and many people end up recycling the same password for multiple accounts. This creates a major security flaw that is easily exploitable by cybercriminals and hackers. That's where two-factor authentication comes in handy by preventing them from accessing your account even with your password.
